Production Plan

For the photography need for the poster and magazine cove, I plan on taking the photos of the characters no the same day as we are filming because then the image I uses will put over the soap and allow the audience to gain an understanding of what the soap is about. This means that I will take the photos of the actors in their costume and the right location, so that it will put over who the characters are and get the audience interested in what is being shown.

Characters - Trailer

We had another meeting to workout what characters we were going to show in the trailers and work out the different characterises for them. Through doing this it allowed us to develop our soap and the storyline of our trailer.

Female 1 – Jessie
  • Stereotypical girly girly
  • Popular
  • Cares about her appearances
  • She is dating Zac
  • The uses of her props, customs ect will be pink and glinting such as her note book being pink with her name in glitter
  • In the trailer the audience will see Jessie and Zac together. However Jessie is texting someone but the audience do not see what it says then there is a shot of Billy. Doing this leaves the storyline open being that she could be cheating on Zac or with exams, drugs ect.
Female 2 – Elizabeth
·        Stereotypical nerdy
·        School orientated – worries about work
·        Dislikes her name being short to Lizzie, however the other female characters caller her that to annoy her and show the way they do not get on
·        However she likes Zac being that he is the only character that is nice to her, means that she has a likes crush on him. This is shown to the audience through the use of her note book having the typical writing of Zac name with love heats all over it.

Female 3 – Sarah
·        Best friend/sidekick to Jessie

Male 1 – Zac
·        Stereotypical male
·        Sporty
·        Popular
·        Is dating Jessie
·        Him and Ryan are wearing the same football jackets, holding a football and both having a JD bag.  Using these elements for both Zac and Ryan with fit with conventions, putting over their characterises and connoting their
 friendship.
Male 2 – Ryan
  • Zac friend
  • Sporty
  • Popular
  • Has matching mise-en-scene such as the football jackets.
Male 3 – Billy
  • Anonymous
  • The audience are not shown anything about Billy apart from that Jessie has texted him. Doing this keeps the storyline open for the audience and gets their attaches, drawing them in to the soap.

Outline - Trailer

As a group we heald a meeting to bring together all that we found out from our reseach and creat a basic outline of what we want the soap to be about and what we plan on showing in the trailer. From this meeting we planed that our soap will be aimed at younger audience between 13-25 silmair to traget audience of the channel 'E4'. This will mean that our soap will be around school life and forces on typicel but dramatic elements that happen at school. The trailer we are making will be the frist audio viual element that are audience will see and we need to make sure that the trailer clearly puts over the soap and draws the audience in.

Location - The trailer will be around a school, with shots down different stereotypical corridoors. Making the loaction a converntional will allow the audience to identify with loactions and be able to clearly see what the soap is going to be about. This is something that I found from my questionnaire, that my traget audience want a soap that they would be about to identify with. This is why I feel that making the loaction general will allow the audience to esaily know what is happening.

Characters - We plan on having 6 main charatcers shown in the trailer, having a mix of male and female charatcers. Appealing to both the male and female audince. With this the representation of the charatcers will mainly be stereotypical, having two charatcers in a relationship, with a male charatcer intereside in football. Through with the convertional charatcers we will inculde some non-stereotypical charatcer represenation such as a tom-boy girl. Doing this will allow the different audience members to be able to relate to the different charatcers. Along with this we plan on showing a teacher in the trailer, being that this will allow the audience to clearly see the setting of a school and to see the way in which the plot will be around school life.

Costume - Being the soap is set around school life and the charatcers in the soap will be in about year 11, this will mean that the charatcers will need to be in school unform to clearly put over this element of the soap. Through along with this the cotumes will represenation the different charatcers. Having the 'nerd' with the unform done propably where as the football charatcer would have more of a sportting unform such as a polo top. Doing this will clearly connote to the audience their charatcers.

Storyline - For the main trailer we plan on having one of the main charatcers walking through the school gonig to her class. As she does this she will be interacting with the other characters in a way that puts over the different storylines. Doing will fit in with want we found out in our reseach, being that it will clearly put over the soap and the up comeing storylines.

Planning for photography - Poster

For the poster I plan on having a photo that will put over the soap, the characters and the storyline. From my research I found it hard to find posters for soaps, showing the way in which most soaps don't uses posters to adverts their soap. This means that the photo I use will need to stand out and gives the audience attention, clearly putting over the soap. I plan on uses a stereotypically photo that highlighting the representation of the characters. I plan on using the six main characters on the poster allowing the audience to be able to relate to one of the characters. The composition of the characters will be placed in a way that allows the audience to see the relationship of the characters and gain an idea of what the soap will be about. The shot I plan on using will be a mid shot being that using this framing will allow the audience to see the characters and any mise-en-scene, giving the audience an idea as to what the characters will be like and what the soap is going to be about.  Along with the shot I need to use will show the facial expression of the characters, this will put over the storyline. I background of the poster fit in with conventional, being plain. Doing this will allow the characters to stand out and get the audiences attention. For the photo I plan on it linking in with the image I uses for the front cover making a clearly link between the poster and the cover, allowing the audience to see that there are both advertising the same soap. From my research I found that my target audience want posters that were different from the conventional and put over the soap.

Draft of layout - Poster

I used my audience research and the research into similar products to help me to create drafts that will appeal to my audience. I found that with my draft layouts I keep to the conventions used of soap posters, have most of the focused on the image with only the information that is needed. Creating drafts has made me think about the type of soap that I will be creating and how I’m going to uses a photo that will be able to clearly put over the soap.
